The Residences, Sandford Lodge is a revolutionary low-rise, high-density residential development in Dublin 6. Leading the way in sustainability and viability, it is composed of 36 high quality garden apartments and duplexes. The development provides private open terraces and gardens with abundant access to natural daylight.
Working closely with Shay Cleary Architects, TileStyle's Professional Services team supplied brassware and tiles for the bathroom interiors in this award winning residential development, featuring products from our brand partner Porcelanosa.
The Design Brief for TileStyle: "We wanted to create an atmosphere of calm and quiet luxury in the interior design" says Architect John Dobbin of Shay Cleary Architects (SCA).
"Our approach was centred on an understated luxuriousness with an emphasis on more natural, warm finishes rather than a cool modernist approach. This concept of calm and elegant finishes became a touchstone for the interiors generally. This simple and elegant approach to materials was extended to the selection of bathroom brassware comprising a brushed brass finish for the bathroom interiors.
With TileStyle's assistance, a warm grey textured tile finish with complementary feature walls to the bathrooms, ensuites and WCs integrates the wall and floor finishes against a calm and contemporary neutral white background. In the smaller visitor WCs to duplexes, we opted for a more textured terrazzo finish making a bolder yet still elegant statement".
Challenges and Solutions: "At SCA we view the discipline of interior design as being fully integrated with the architectural approach, rather than a separate discipline" continues Dobbin. "The two elements must reinforce each other and this is one of the key challenges on any commercial project. Whilst the rental nature of this project placed an emphasis on durability and cost effectiveness in replacement including maintenance into the future, the location and prime-sector nature of the units required a really considered and bespoke interior design approach.
TileStyle assisted SCA greatly in coming up with fantastic options for discussion and review with our client, including an extensive suite of samples giving the team a huge amount of control over the selections, all adhering to the budget. We believe the results speak for themselves".
