A huge congratulations to Clare who is the latest recipient and 10th anniversary winner of the bursary which will help her to develop her next play, currently called “Bitter Sweat.” This play focuses on body image - the pressures of society to conform to certain physical standards and the lengths people will go to in order to achieve them.
Dublin Port Company Wins the Jim McNaughton Perpetual Award for Best Commissioning Practice for their project "Starboard Home."
Congratulations to the 2017 Jim McNaughton Perpetual Award winners, Dublin Port Company, who won for their project “Starboard Home.” A unique collaboration between Dublin Port Company and the National Concert Hall where contemporary musicians were commissioned to write songs and follow a brief of connecting the city with the port.
A series of conversations with the National Concert Hall made music the obvious choice to achieve this. Gary Sheehan (Head of Programme planning at NCH) called upon lead singer of well-known Irish band Bell X1, Paul Noonan, to curate the winning project "Starboard Home" with him. The result was a concert featuring 12 artists who performed to an audience of 2,000 people over two nights and an album that reached No.1 in the week of its release. There was some fantastic entertainment, as always, on the night, including music from the Artane Band, a magical on stage collaboration from Gearoid Solan (2015 TileStyle bursary winner) and Paul Noonan, lead singer of Bell X1. Actors David Ganly and Niall Buggy also performed an extract from "On Blueberry Hill" during the ceremony. We would like to congratulate all of this year’s winners and also all the nominees. The calibre of entries for this year’s awards was stronger than ever so to even be shortlisted was a huge achievement in itself.
