Last Thurday evening, the 6th of November 2014, Houzz came to TileStyle to host their first ever professional presentation in Ireland.

We were delighted to have been approached by Houzz to host such a significant event.

Over 120 industry professionals were in attendance including numerous renowned architects, designers and the CEO and co-founder of Houzz, Adi Tatarko.

CEO and Co-founder of Houzz, Adi Tatarko, speaking at the Houzz presentation in TileStyle

Houzz is the leading platform for home remodelling, bringing together both professionals and homeowners via mobile, local and social tools in a uniquely visual community.

Today, millions of homeowners and more than 250,000 architects, designers, contractors and other remodelling professionals connect through houzz.com and its mobile apps every month.

The presentation was given to help guide professionals on how to get the most out of this free and very useful online platform.

When asked why Houzz chose TileStyle for the event, Gemma Smith, Industry Marketing Manager for Houzz UK had said:

TileStyle had been recommended to us by numerous design professionals who had been to the showroom and said how amazing it was. The sheer size and layout of TileStyle made it an ideal location to host an event of this scale”

With water charges kicking in from today, we have a few bits of helpful advice on how save on usage when it comes to your bathroom!

Toilet Tips!

Only use the toilet for its clear purpose! Flushing the toilet is the biggest water user in the house. Don’t flush random bits of toilet paper or use it as disposal for anything other than what it’s meant for.

Taking this into account, the dual flush toilet system is bound to become a household essential, due to its capability to save water with their half flush.

Teething Issues!

Brush your teeth wisely! Don’t keep the water running whilst you brush. Only use it to wet the toothbrush and for rinsing. Even better if you can fill a glass up to rinse with rather than shoving your head in the sink while the tap runs!

Brainy Baths!

Be smart about how you use your bath water.

Try saving baths for those days that you really are in need of one. That way you will be even more appreciative of it and why not enjoy a glass of champers too on that extra special occasion!

Bath water (if you feel it’s clean enough!) can be used to soak heavily soiled clothes that need pre-soaking before a wash. So before you think about emptying that water, give the kids muddy clothes some steeping time in it!

Shower Savvy!

Install a low-flow showerhead. They are definitley a wise investment and will save you money on water expenses.

Another way to cut down on water use is to turn off the shower while soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse (but you knew that already!)

Shave Your Costs!

Rinse your razor in the sink. Fill the sink with a few inches of warm water. This will rinse your razor just as well as running water, with far less waste of water.

If you happen to shave in the shower, turn the water off whilst doing so and used a container instead to rinse the razor.

At TileStyle we have a wide range of water saving products available.

Contact our Bathroom Manager Tony Murphy to hear more about our selection.

Little Greene, has joined forces with one of the rising stars of the British fashion scene, Edeline Lee. A great synergy and meeting of minds emerged between the two brands and the concept of ‘Moments of Colour’ was born.

Christo from Lefroy Brooks, strongly suspects that taps as we know them today will disappear into the mists of nostalgia and in their place we are destined to be using remote controls to control our water.

He therefore took on the task of researching this century of taps and selecting the great classics from each decade. From their domestic origins in the late Victorian era through the mechanical angularity of the Edwardians, the curvaceous turn of the century French, the colonial twenties, the deco thirties, the streamline fifties, the starry sixties to the funky seventies…….

He visited countless museums, salvage yards, castles, cottages and dealers’ dens in his quest for these forgotten art forms of history. Indeed, he developed quite a passion for the chase, unearthing some items through going to great lengths and others in an unexpected instant.

But what does a true classic mean and how does a design become a classic he asks. Well, foremost it stands the test of time, it is popular, a design which sold well in its day and continued to be demanded. And of course it worked, it functioned, it did its job!

All the taps he chose were still in working order, perhaps a new washer or two was required....  but none the less functioning even after in some cases one hundred years. These are art forms – sculptures not only for the eye but also for the hand – They look right and feel beautiful.

Here we present just a fraction of the results of Christo’s’ labours - The 1950s Belle Aire Tapware Collection.

For more information on this range and other delights from Lefroy Brooks - Contact Tony Murphy our Bathroom Manager. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Regency meets legendary 1960s, Victorian meets classic 1950s, Georgian meets 1970s chic….

In keeping with the company’s ethos of mixing old and new, classic with contemporary, and traditional with trendy, Little Greene presents  Highlights - an eclectic melting pot of combinations – sophisticated base shades and bold accents.

With so many of us living modern lives in buildings originally designed for a completely different lifestyle, Little Greene’s  historical ‘neutral colours’  remain true to their origins and architecture, whilst forming the basis of contemporary design schemes; not by changing them but by changing the colours used with them.

“Using paints effectively in interior design is a much more sophisticated process than selecting a single colour from a paint chart. One colour in isolation can be attractive, two in combination can be beautiful and three shades used together can be quite exquisite.” (David Mottershead, MD Little Greene)

Little Greene’s fabulous collections of Paint & Wallpaper are available here at TileStyle.

tilestyle ice bucket challenge

In the last few weeks, the Ice Bucket Challenge has quite literally “soaked” the nation, if not the world!

On Friday 22nd August 2014, the team at TileStyle took on the Ice Bucket Challenge in aid of The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA). We managed to raise €500 for this charity in the space of 24 hours.

It was a fantastically fun morning for everyone involved and more importantly raised funds for this small organisation that relies heavily on fundraising and donations. We conducted the challenge in some of our baths in the showroom with most of the partakers wearing their suits!

Watch our team get drenched with ice water for a good cause. Some of the reactions are priceless!

Some of the reactions captured in the images below!

Blurring the boundaries between the bathroom and living area….

Lamp shower

Several of the world's most successful designers work for Hansgrohe, not least Philippe Starck, Antonio Citterio and  Jean-Marie Massaud. Thier creativity has offered a fresh perspective on bathrooms and triggered numerous technical innovations. No surprise then that Hansgrohe’s showers have won more than 300 internationally renowned awards and set multiple new trends.

Hansgrohe Designer and Architect Oki Sato is a rising star on the international designer scene. He enjoys playing with boundaries and loves creating little moments of surprise.  Time and time again he manages to achieve that 'wow' effect, putting playful, humourous interpretations on familiar objects and placing them in contexts that you would never expect.

Sato’s LampShower harmoniously joins water and light in a most unusual way. Lightness and humour is combined with sophisticated design…..boundaries between the bathroom and the living areas become blurred…..

The main design of this LampShower is the form of a lampshade, adding a sense of homeliness to the bathroom. The shower head features a 5 watt warm white LED modeled on the classic Edison bulb, providing a wonderfully ambient lighting environment. It offers a unique rain fall from the rim of the lamp shade which completely washes over the entire body.

This rather astonishing creation will to be added to our displays very shortly.

Meanwhile, contact Tony Murphy, our Bathroom Manager for more details on this or indeed any other Hansgrohe product. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
